When the BBC decided to axe the longstanding music chart show 'Top of The Pops' this year it created heated debate among the British public, on the show in general and it's 42 year history. But after dwindling viewing figures and stiff competition from 24 hour music channel's the corporation finally decided to pull the plug this Sunday with a special show.
The special show brought back several old 'TOTP' presenters including Jimmy Saville, Mike Read and more. This along with various montages' of the years gone by helped pull in viewers to a total of 3.9 million compared to the usual 1 million.
As to whether the BBC will be bringing TOTP back for a Christmas show, or in a new format has yet to be announced.
